Urban Smart Street – Pashan S.U.S. Road is a people-first urban street transformation project, developed through in-depth urban research, placemaking principles, and inclusive street design strategies. The proposal reimagines the street not merely as a movement corridor, but as a vibrant public space that prioritizes pedestrians, cyclists, social interaction, and urban life.
The design framework is grounded in contextual analysis of movement patterns, land use, user behavior, and street ecology, translating research into practical, scalable design interventions. The street is structured to support walkability, safety, accessibility, and active public engagement, while maintaining efficient vehicular movement.
Placemaking elements such as defined pedestrian zones, street furniture, shaded walkways, activity pockets, and visual continuity contribute to a more humane and legible urban environment. The proposal emphasizes streets for people, encouraging community interaction and enhancing the everyday urban experience.
The project was ranked 3rd across Pune, recognizing its strong integration of urban research, social responsiveness, and design clarity. It reflects VGPA’s capability in urban design and public realm planning, delivering streets that are inclusive, functional, and socially meaningful.
